Here are upcoming events/opportunities for CBOs, individuals, and industry partners to get involved in our transformative career-readiness work. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Sarah Kong, our Pathways and Partnerships Director.

Guest Speakers bring their expertise into the classroom within the context of a particular industry sector. They share their stories with our students, speaking extensively about who they were as a high school student, their postsecondary pathway, and how they got to where they are in their respective careers now. Guest Speakers are invited to engage with our students in their classrooms year-round.

Mentors support this process with their expertise and experience in their particular industry sector, as well as providing project feedback to our students. Capstone Mentorship takes place during spring semester, typically during the months of February-April.

Week Without Walls is an immersive experience designed to provide all 230 Burton 11th graders with impactful work-based learning experiences. During this week, our youth will be off-site participating in a series of career readiness workshops and academy specific work-based learning experiences under the guidance of industry partners across the Bay Area. The mission of Week Without Walls is to elevate young people’s interactions with their career pathway beyond academic learning, and to provide experiences that connect their learning to real world environments while listening to the stories from real people in those industries. Throughout Week Without Walls, young people are encouraged to and provided opportunities to envision their professional pursuits beyond high school, and are challenged to expand their skill sets and perspectives as working professionals. Week Without Walls epitomizes our Community School Model, inviting industry professionals and community-based organizations to support our work in this event as much as they have the capacity to.
